Last Will and Testament of Israel Standefer

In the name of God, Amen, this thirtieth
day of August in the year of our Lord 1793, Israel Standefer of Orange County
and the State of North Carolina being very weak of body but of perfect and
sound memory, thanks be given with Almighty God for the same, and knowing
the mortality of the body, that it is appointed for all men to die, I do
hereby constitute, ratefie and confirm this my last Will and Testament, that
to say, I first of all commit my soul and body into the hands of Almighty
God who first gave them, to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion
of my executors, hoping at the Resurrection of the dead for forgiveness of
my sins throughout Jesus Christ our Lord -- and I do hereby give and bequeath
of the same in the following manner and form---
First of all I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Cassander Standefer,
all my movable property such as my household furniture, horses, cattle, hogs
and sheep, and all other such property I am possessed of with at this time.
I also give unto my eldest son, Ephriam Standefer twenty five pounds, Covenant
money when there is a deed made for my land I now live on. I desire also
to give unto my daughter Sarah Roads the bed I and my wife lies on after
her decease, and after her decease to her daughter Cassander. I desire
to give unto my daughter Rosaner Roads one cow after there is a deed made
for the land.
I also give unto my son Joshua Standefer
my plantation with 200 acres of land including the improvements whereon I
now live. I also give unto my son Israel Standefer, 100 acres of land, called
by name of William Baker place, and that my son Joshua Standefer should make
him a deed to the said land when he, the said Joshua Standefer, obtains a
deed himself, and if the said Israel Standefer never comes to receive the
land that it should remain my son Joshua Standefer's. I also give unto my
two daughters, Mary Standefer and Elizabeth Standefer, 100 acres of land
beginning on the Watery Brack adjoining Thomas Guyns, John Cabe's, William
Tesmers, making out 100 acres, my desire is that my son Joshua Standefer
should make a deed unto my two daughters Mary and Elizabeth when he obtains
I also give unto my grandson, Israel
Turner, son of Ruth Turner, wife of William Turner, 88 acres of land lying
on the North side of William Pickett's land adjoining on Benjamin Puler's
land when my son Joshua obtains a deed. I also desire 100 acres of land to
be sold when a deed
is obtained to pay off legals.
I also give unto my son Benjamin Standefer,
forty shillings covenant money when a deed is obtained for the land. I also
give unto my daughter Cassander Hendon forty shillings current money when
there is a deed obtained for the land. And, I do appoint my wife Cassander
Standefer, and my son Joshua Standefer as executors of this my Last Will
and Testament, revoking disannuling all other and former Wills and Testaments
by me made as witness. I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day
and year first above written.
